The Norwegian Kindergarten is a nursery and preschool in Wimbledon offering places for children from 2 to school age, either for starting English school at five years old or starting at The Norwegian School at six years old. Our staff offers bilingual teaching, all staff members are fluent in both Norwegian and English and the children are exposed to both languages throughout the day. The educational program is based on the Norwegian curriculum and pedagogical framework which in every way reflects beliefs, values and traditions shared across all Scandinavian countries.

We had an amazing experience in the kindergarten. The staff is very caring and the space the kids have to play both inside and outside is superb. My son had previously been to a forest school which he loved and we were nervous about this move, but from the day one he loved it and in his own words he feels he has more “space” now than in the forest. I think the truly free flow environment is what gives them this feeling plus enjoying regular trips to the Commons. The Scandinavian way
The Norwegian Kindergarten is all about play. We believe that play-based learning is essential for children’s development as it promotes creativity, problem-solving, independence and empathy. We don’t talk down to children, we have conversations with them - because every child has the right to be heard, seen and nurtured. And we believe that young minds grow best when actively exploring the world around together with adults who are curious and caring. We bring that sense of wonder and togetherness into everything we do throughout the day.
And finally, being Scandinavian means that being outdoors is in our DNA. We see the nature around us as the ultimate playground for young children – regardless of weather.
Accepting applicants now
We are a small, full-time kindergarten usually with about 15-20 children at all times. We enroll new children to join our little tribe any time of year.
London is a melting pot and that is surely mirrored by the lovely families in our community. We have parents from England, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Egypt, The Czech Republic and USA to mention some. Hence, welcoming and integrating new children who may speak multiple languages is in our DNA.
