Food & meals

At our kindergarten, healthy, nutritious meals and a sense of Hygge - comfort, calm, and togetherness - are part of the daily culture, creating a nurturing environment where children can enjoy mealtimes as much as play and learning.

Allergies & some restrictions
We regularly have children in our care with mild to severe nut allergy, so any form of nuts are not allowed. Grapes and cherry tomatoes must be chopped according to guidelines to ensure they are not chocking hazards.

Birthdays & celebrations
The birthday child may bring fruit or smoothies for everyone to share on this birthday. We have a few special occasions and celebrations every year where we serve something sweet at the kindergarten. For example, Lucia, Christmas and 17. mai.

Lunch boxes
We rely on the recommendations from the Norwegian health authorities and the EYFS concerning food and meals in our kindergarten. On a day to day basis, we strive to promote a varied and healthy diet among children and encourage that there is vegetables, fruits and berries, a range of breads, lean meats and dairy products. Lunch with lots of processed meat products, salt and sugar should not be something served to the children on a daily basis.

Hygge

Hygge is all about comfort, togetherness, and a sense of well-being, and mealtimes are a perfect moment to experience it. At our kindergarten, children enjoy healthy, balanced meals in a calm, cosy environment, with a focus on nourishing their bodies and supporting their growth. Alongside this, we also embrace the joy of the occasional sweet treat, teaching children to enjoy food mindfully and with pleasure. It’s not just about what they eat, but the connection, calm, and community that mealtimes create.
