Life in Wimbledon
For those of you that are thinking about relocating to the Wimbledon area, we have some information for you!
From Wimbledon it is an easy commute into central London.
The train to Waterloo takes 25-30 minutes from Wimbledon Station. Here you also have the District Line (tube) which takes you all the way to Paddington Station in about 32 minutes. There are also buses that easily transports you around the area to wherever you would want to go. In London (where most things take about an hour), this is a good commute time for most travel needs. There have also been major improvements to the bicycle network in the UK capital in the recent years, so there are opportunities to cycle to work or activities.
We encourage using the TFL (Transport For London) information when venturing out of the area. https://tfl.gov.uk
Google Maps is also widely used for this purpose.
There are many shops in the area, and for easy online grocery shopping, there are many different options to choose from. We would advise a quick Internet search to access these services if needed. Wimbledon Village is a charming village only 10 min walk from Wimbledon station. Where there are nice restaurants, cafes, independent clothing shops, local butcher, food shops and pubs.
Wimbledon is mostly known for the Grand Slam Tennis Tournament happening annually in June/July. If you enjoy some excellent tennis and great vibes, than this really is a treat. Its a great experience even if your unable to get tickets. Look up the AELC for more details.
Wimbledon Common is a great forrest and park area. The park host events all through the year and every Sunday at the end of the Common, the beginning of the Wimbledon Village there is a food market. With stalls from local farms and vendors that sell hot and cold food to enjoy onsite.
Wimbledon offer multiple sports activities for children. Fotball, gymnastics, swimming, teater, art lessions, tennis to name a few. The Norwegian School in London has collaborations with both Westside Tennis that children from age 3 can join and Target (fotball and other ball play) can join from age 5.
